Pilates
What is Pilates?
Pilates is a unique method of exercise developed by Joseph Pilates. It promotes muscle strength and flexibility, restores and corrects posture, teaches correct breathing techniques and will improve functional movement and biomechanics amongst a myriad of other fitness and health benefits. The key principles of Pilates include control, precision, flowing movement, balance and concentration and it is practised on specially designed equipment like reformers, cadillac tables and Wunda chairs.
Pilates at InSync:
The team at InSync marry traditional Pilates methods with modern scientific and evidence-based exercise rehabilitation practices. We have been a leader in this field since 2000, and continue to empower clients to reach optimal wellness. InSync provides guidance from highly trained health professionals in a clinical environment, regularly reassessing personal goals and liaising with the referring health practitioner to provide the best possible program.
How to get started:
InSync clients begin their Pilates journey with an initial assessment with a physiotherapist. Their comprehensive injury and medical history is taken, and a thorough body assessment is made, identifying any weaknesses to be targeted with Pilates.
The physiotherapist then helps the client to establish their goals and what they hope to achieve through Pilates.
The next step is a private, one-on-one session with a Pilates expert. Here the main concepts of Pilates and the equipment used are introduced along with some basic exercises. The idea is to build the client’s confidence in themselves and the journey they’re about to embark on.
A semi-private session follows, with 1 instructor and 1 other client. This step encourages some independence in the client, helping them take ownership of the process, as well as helping with integration into a regular Pilates session.
From here the client will be in a regular Pilates class with 1 instructor and 2 other clients. InSync’s Pilates experts will continue to evaluate and develop the client’s Pilates program, helping to address specific areas of focus and to reach the client’s desired goals.
